Actor-Politician Vijay Granted ‘Y’ Category Security in Tamil Nadu

The Ministry of Home Affairs has accorded ‘Y’ category security to actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay. The security cover, which will be implemented only within Tamil Nadu, includes round-the-clock protection by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).Under this arrangement, Vijay will be guarded by a team of eight personnel, including two commandos and additional police officers. The security detail also includes an armed guard stationed at his residence and other places of stay, along with designated vehicles for movement.Vijay formally entered politics in February 2024 with the launch of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Since then, he has emerged as a significant player in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, positioning his party in opposition to both the ruling DMK in the state and the BJP at the Centre. His entry has caused a shift in political dynamics, prompting major parties, including the DMK and AIADMK, to recalibrate their strategies ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.TVK received official recognition from the Election Commission of India (ECI) as a registered political party in August 2024. The party held its first state-level conference in Vikravandi, Villupuram district, on October 27, 2024, signaling its intent to contest in the upcoming elections. With Vijay’s rising prominence in politics, the decision to provide enhanced security reflects concerns over his safety as he continues to expand his political footprint across Tamil Nadu.
