India’s renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal aka “Gudda”has passed away at the age of 63 after a prolonged illness. The news was confirmed by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) in a post. The designer has been suffering from a heart ailment since last year. His close friend and model Saud Khan shared that Bal was in the ICU a week before his last show on October 24. He was discharged and then admitted to a hospital in Delhi on Wednesday, where he died of a cardiac arrest on Friday.”We mourn the passing of Legendary designer Rohit Bal. He was a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India. Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations. His legacy of artistry, and innovation along with forward-thinking will live on in the fashion world,” FDCI said in a statement.Bal made his comeback to work earlier this year and showcased his last show at the 2024 Lakme India Fashion Week last month in Delhi. His collection Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe saw Bollywood actor Ananya Panday as the showstopper.A graduate of St. Stephens College in New Delhi, Rohit Bal launched his eponymous label in 1990. Known for his versatility and attention to detail, Bal was the first designer among his peers to patent and copyright his meticulously crafted creations.International celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell have worn his designs.
