A 10-Day Cleanliness Drive In BBMP Limits From Monday

BENGALURU: As per the direction given by Bengaluru incharge and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, officials concerned of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited will embark upon a 10day cleanliness drive from April 21 in all the wards falling under 8 zones of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Waste dumping sites across Bengaluru city have been identified and a programme has been formulated to clean the identified spots of wastes during the cleanliness drive of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited, said a release here on Saturday. Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited Chief Operations Officer Ramamani on Saturday said the cleanliness drive is ahead of monsoon ahead and the cleanliness campaign will be carried out using the necessary resources with the participation of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited, non-governmental organisations, resident welfare associations and the public. By involving various agencies, the Chief Operations Officer said the goal is to clean roads, footpaths, medians of the roads and public places across the city for the 10-days of the campaign. Along with cleaning roads, officials concerned will conduct raids on industries/shops using single-use plastic products and action will be initiated against those found selling single-use plastic products. Steps will also be taken to control single-use plastic. Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited officials are initiating necessary steps to create awareness among the citizens against dumping of wastes in public places and awareness will also be created through use of public address systems fitted to auto-tippers engaged to collect waste from households. Appropriate measures are being taken to control dumping of construction and demolition wastes in the city. Those found dumping construction and demolition wastes in vacant lots will face action.
