Hyderabad:Occupants who illegally occupied 50 dwelling units in the Old Marredpally 2BHK Dignity Housing Colony in the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency were vacated on Monday. The officials of the revenue department and the GHMC, assisted by the police, vacated the houses.The colony comprises 468 houses, of which 268 have been occupied by beneficiaries since 2022. The remaining 200 houses have yet to be allotted, with no draw of lots conducted or allotment letters issued for these units.During ongoing surveys to identify houses for eligible beneficiaries, officials identified that unauthorised occupants took over 50 houses. Some individuals even locked the houses in an attempt to claim ownership. The officials started locking these houses on Saturday night. By Monday, officials had regained control of the properties, restoring them to state government possession.SC, ST panel meets Rachakonda CPHyderabad:The Telangana State SC, ST Commission held a review meeting at the Rachakonda police commissionerate on Monday. Focusing on the status of cases registered under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, commission chairman Bakkani Venkataiah emphasised that law enforcement must expedite investigations to accelerate legal processes for affected victims. He noted alarming delays in resolving cases and directed police officials to prioritise pending investigations under the Act.Venkataiah stressed the need for a proactive approach by law enforcement to protect the rights of the SC, ST communities and prevent future incidents through strict action. Rachakonda police commissioner Sudheer Babu assured the commission that all the atrocity-related cases were being thoroughly investigated that the police was working towards securing convictions. Commission members Kusram Neeladevi and Konkati Lakshminarayana, district collector Vijayender Reddy, Malkajgiri DCP Padmaja, LB Nagar DCP Praveen Kumar and Crime DCP Aravind Babu also attended the meeting.
