Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs Not to Attend All-Party Meeting In-Person

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders on Thursday expressed their inability to attend the all-party meeting called by the Centre on the Pahalgam terror attack in person. However, they have assured the Union government of its support to any decision to ‘counter’ the terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Seeking permission to attend it via video conference, Arvind Sawant and Sanjay Raut said both of them are in remote places of the country.“The government have invited party leaders in Parliament for an all-party meeting. However, both myself and Mr Sanjay Raut are currently in various parts of the country with the official delegation of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, These places are remote, making it impossible to reach Delhi in time, and only party leaders are allowed to attend this meeting. So we would be very grateful if we could participate in this discussion remotely, through secure video conferencing,” said Sawant in his letter to minister of parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju.“I assure you on behalf of the Shiv Sena (UBT) that at this crucial juncture and when 28 innocent tourists have been killed in the attack by terrorists, we stand firmly with the decisions and action initiated by the government of India to counter this cowardly, dastardly attack,” Sawant wrote. The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde will represent the party at the meeting to discuss the attack in which 26 people were killed. The party released a statement informing of the participation of Shrikant Shinde and expressed “unwavering” support.“Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde will represent the party at the all-party meeting to be held today in New Delhi. In light of the recent developments in Jammu & Kashmir and the ongoing national security concerns, Shrikant Shinde will convey Shiv Sena’s firm stand on national unity, security, and the unwavering support for every citizen affected by the Pahalgam attack,” Shiv Sena said.Terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen while leaving several others injured, in one of the deadliest attacks in the valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed.
