Govt Must Act on Fake YouTube Channels: Bandi

Karimnagar: Misuse of YouTube channels to defame individuals, carry out personal attacks and blackmail in the name of journalism must be dealt with sternly, said Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The growing trend of content creators operating without any journalistic background was harming the credibility of genuine media professionals, he said.Sanjay urged the government to act swiftly against such elements and announced plans to write to the Chief Minister on the issue, while speaking to mediapersons at Vemulawada. While unethical YouTube content must be curbed, Sanjay stressed that channels raising public issues and serving social interests should be encouraged. Sanjay expressed concern over the deteriorating working conditions of journalists across the state, pointing out that many struggle with meagre salaries. He said it is the government’s responsibility to protect and empower the media community. Reiterating his commitment to the welfare of journalists, the BJP leader promised that if his party came to power in the state, it would build houses for journalists, issue health cards and provide insurance cover. “The BJP will ensure that journalists live with dignity,” he assured. Crediting the media for his political rise beyond Karimnagar, Sanjay criticised the Congress Government for failing to fulfil its promises even after 17 months in power, claiming that the needs of both the public and journalists had been ignored. He also visited the new Press Club building in Vemulawada, which was partly funded with Rs 10 lakh from his MPLAD funds. He assured an additional Rs 10 lakh for its completion and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of the Vemulawada temple and Karimnagar constituency. He cited CSR initiatives and the sanctioning of institutions like Navodaya and Sainik Schools as part of his efforts.
