Veteran Journalist Ratikant Mohanty Passes Away

Bhubaneswar: Ratikant Mohanty, a towering figure in Odia journalism and a respected name in Odisha’s media landscape, passed away on Saturday morning, leaving behind a rich legacy of integrity, dedication, and mentorship.He was 70. He is survived by his wife, Sipra Mohanty, and two daughters, Puja and Bandana.Mohanty was ill for the past few months and was under medical care.Over the decades, Mohanty made an indelible mark in the world of journalism. He lent his voice to prominent platforms including the English daily The Asian Age, Indus Valley Times, and several leading Odia publications such as Dinalipi and Paryabekshak. He was also closely associated with the esteemed news agency Hindusthan Samachar.Known for his unwavering honesty and ethical journalistic standards, Ratikant Mohanty was not only a reporter of truth but also a mentor to many. He played a pivotal role in nurturing and shaping the careers of numerous young journalists, offering guidance, encouragement, and a shining example of professional conduct.Affectionately known as ‘Rati Bhai’ within the media fraternity, Mohanty was revered across all sections of society. His work earned him the admiration of politicians, bureaucrats, and the common people alike. Beyond journalism, he was known for his deep spirituality, often spending time in local temples and in conversation with saints and sages.A compassionate soul and committed social activist, he never turned away anyone in need. Even strangers found in him a ready listener and a willing helper, making him a beacon of hope to many.“Ratikant Mohanty’s life was a testament to the power of principled journalism. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of media professionals to uphold truth, integrity, and compassion in their work,” said Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha’s two Deputy Chief Ministers – KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, and many other leaders condoled the death of Mohanty.
