Raise Above Caste, Politics to Protect Dharma: D.K. Aruna

Hyderabad: BJP vice-president and Mahbubnagar MP D.K. Aruna urged Hindus to rise above caste and political divisions to preserve dharma, stating that caste was a construct of political agendas. Speaking after unveiling a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji at Rampur in Koilkonda mandal —claimed to be the tallest Shivaji statue in Mahbubnagar district — the MP said the Maratha warrior instilled a spirit of resistance and introduced guerilla warfare to the country.“Had Shivaji not stood up against anti-Hindu forces, Hindus may not have survived in southern India. Today, when we proudly call ourselves Hindus, it is because of him,” she averred. “India has helped the world in times of crisis. But if Hindus are pushed back into medieval times, no one will come to our aid. Now is the time to set aside our political and caste differences and unite,” she said. Addressing hundreds of Hindu Vahini, Bajrang Dal and BJYM workers who gathered for the unveiling ceremony, Aruna appealed to Hindu youth to emulate Shivaji’s son, Shambhaji and embrace the same spirit of resistance. Earlier in Mahabubnagar, Aruna and BJP workers cleaned the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and paid floral tributes as part of the party’s ongoing programme to court Dalits in the state.
