Raipur: Union home minister Amit Shah who is scheduled to arrive here late on Friday evening on a two-day visit to the state is likely to unveil the new surrendered Naxal rehabilitation policy of the Chhattisgarh government. Mr. Shah is scheduled to leave for Dantewada in south Bastar in Chhattisgarh on Saturday from Raipur to attend the closing ceremony of ‘Bastar Pandum’ festival, being organized by the state government to showcase art, culture and cuisine of the tribes of the region. Sources indicated that Mr. Shah is most likely to unveil the new surrendered Naxals rehabilitation policy of Chhattisgarh on the occasion. The policy has been approved by the state cabinet here recently.The key features of the ‘Chhattisgarh Naxal Surrender/ Victim Relief and Rehabilitation Policy- 2025’ are ‘holistic’ care for surrendered Maoists, reward for even Maoist ‘foot soldiers’, and a bounty of Rs 50,000 for a person who can persuade their Maoist relatives to surrender. The policy aims at providing higher compensation, free education, healthcare facilities, and job opportunities to the victims of Naxal violence. The policy also envisages suitable rehabilitation of surrendered Naxals and legal support to them to begin life afresh, official sources said.The compensation given in case of death of ‘gopniya sainik’ (police informers), those providing special assistance to security personnel in anti-Naxal operations, has been increased from Rs five lakh to Rs ten lakh each (over and above the compensation payable under Central schemes). Similarly, compensation given in case of permanent disability to such a person has been hiked to Rs five lakh from Rs three lakh, official sources said. In case of murder, serious injury, or permanent disability to civilians, the victims for families will be provided 1.5 hectares of agriculture land or four decimal (1,742 sq ft) of residential land in urban areas. In case land could not be made available, financial assistance of Rs four lakh will be given to the victims in rural areas and Rs eight lakh in urban areas.In cases of death of civilians, if a government job cannot be provided to a family member, assistance of Rs 15 lakh will be paid. Mr. Shah is scheduled to review the security situation in Leftwing insurgency-hit Bastar at Raipur on Saturday evening before winding up his tour to Chhattisgarh, sources said. EOM
