Privileges panel to probe 'wrong' media report on MLAs’ training

VIJAYAWADA: Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu has voiced serious concern over media reports in a vernacular daily, claiming exorbitant expenditures towards training classes held for MLAs.Speaking in the Assembly on Tuesday, Ayyanna Patrudu said he is recommending the privileges committee to conduct an inquiry into the media establishment that released the report. Subsequent action will be determined on the basis of the committee’s findings. The speaker presented newspaper clippings in the assembly and said, in fact, such training classes were not held at all due to existing election codes. The media establishment made false assertions regarding costs for training. No money was spent on this count. Such inaccuracies should not be tolerated, he said.Ayyanna Patrudu also expressed his disapproval of the kind of behaviour exhibited by the YSR Congress members during a speech made by the Governor on Monday. It was embarrassing for the entire legislative body as these members exhibited disrespectful behaviour towards the Governor, including holding placards and mocking the royal protocols, he said. The speaker said all members, particularly senior legislators, should uphold decorum and respect. He stressed that all members should act with dignity, as legislative respect was paramount. “Using disruptive tactics to undermine the stature of higher office-holders is inappropriate.” He called upon all members to condemn the actions of the YSRC during the Governor’s address, and called for a return to civility in political discourse.
