Hyderabad DRI thwarts illegal turtle trade; Seizes 1448 turtles in Odisha

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad zonal unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a person and seized 1,448 Indian Flap Shell Turtles at Godipada Toll Plaza at Khurda in Odisha along with the vehicle used in carrying the contrabands under provisions of Section 50(1)(c) read with provisions of Schedule-I of Wild Life (Protection) Act-1972. Indian Flap Shell Turtles, classified as a Schedule I species, are afforded stringent protection under the Wild Life (Protection) Act- 1972. In a statement issued here on Monday, the DRI remains committed to combating wildlife trafficking and enforcing the laws that protect endangered species. This operation is a testament to DRI’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade of wildlife products and preserve the rich biodiversity of the nation.
