New Delhi:In her first Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced the roll out of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, which had been stalled by the previous AAP regime. The scheme provides free treatment up to `5 lakh per beneficiary, with an additional `5 lakh covered by the state government. The Cabinet also decided to table CAG reports in the first session of the newly elected Delhi Assembly. The AAP government had reportedly been sitting over 14 CAG reports for the last 10 years. The new government also held discussions on the Mahila Samriddhi Yojna to provide a monthly financial assistance of `2,500 to eligible women as promised in the BJP’s poll manifesto.“More discussions are required before launching the scheme,” Ms Gupta said. After assuming charge, the chief minister asserted that not a single day would be wasted in realising the “Viksit Delhi” mission. The 50-year-old leader also said that the new BJP government will fulfil all the promises made to the people of the national capital. The BJP, which returned to power with a decisive mandate, faces the challenge of fulfilling key election promises, continuing welfare schemes introduced by the previous government, fixing the city’s pollution and infrastructure issues, and delivering on cleaning the Yamuna. Shortly after formally taking charge, Gupta, along with her Cabinet colleagues, performed ‘Yamuna Aarti’ at Vasudev Ghat. The pollution in the Yamuna had been a contentious issue during the Delhi Assembly elections. Among the top priorities of the new government will be to deliver on its promise of providing a monthly honorarium of `2,500 to women of Delhi. This was a key commitment in the party’s manifesto and was designed to outmatch AAP’s pledge of `2,100. Another major challenge will be to continue welfare schemes initiated by the AAP government, including free electricity up to 200 units, free water connection and free bus rides for women, among others.
