Hyderabad: The Budget must prioritise quality education and allocate the necessary resources to strengthen the State’s education system, said Akunuri Murali, chairperson of the Telangana Education Commission (TEC). He, along with other TEC members, submitted the commission’s recommendations to Deputy Chief Minister and finance minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday. The TEC stated that years of mismanagement had contributed to a learning crisis in the state. The commission emphasised the need for immediate intervention to address the deteriorating state of education and improve learning outcomes. In discussions with various stakeholders in the education sector, TEC gathered suggestions on how to enhance state educational institutions. Based on this, the commission proposed a budget aimed at creating better learning environments and improving teaching standards.Proposals have been put forward to allocate funds for improving government schools, junior colleges, degree colleges, polytechnic institutes, and universities.Additionally, the commission has recommended upgrades for Telangana Foundational Schools and Telangana Public Schools to bring them up to international standards, providing better learning and teaching environments.Public pressure is mounting, with civil society organisations calling for a larger education budget in 2025-26 and stronger government action, said Murali, adding that the commission believes that the upcoming state Budget will be crucial in addressing these challenges.
