Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre case of online fraud, a doctor from Odisha’s Sambalpur was left stunned when he received a marble slab instead of the laptop he had ordered online. The doctor, a resident of Hospital Road, had placed an order for a laptop worth Rs 61,000 on February 4, expecting a smooth shopping experience. However, when the package arrived, he was shocked to find a marble plate in place of the device. Perplexed and frustrated, he immediately contacted the e-commerce service provider to report the incident. However, after receiving no resolution from the company, he lodged a formal complaint with the local police. Following his complaint, the town police registered a case and launched an investigation to uncover whether the incident was due to an error or a deliberate act of fraud. Authorities suspect that the switch may have occurred during the delivery process. The case has once again raised concerns about the security of online shopping, highlighting the risks customers face while making high-value purchases. Investigations are ongoing, the local police said.
