Food Safety Violations Found at NALSAR University Canteen During Inspection

Hyderabad: Food safety officials conducted an inspection of food establishments at NALSAR University in Shamirpet on Tuesday. The officials inspected the campus canteen, operated by Sri Sai Ganesh Caterers. The inspection revealed that the canteen’s FSSAI license had been obtained under the registered address instead of the food preparation premises. Additionally, the establishment lacked a FoSTaC-trained supervisor, which is mandatory for ensuring food safety standards. Further violations included the absence of pest control records and water analysis reports.During the inspection, officials discovered rat faeces and a cockroach infestation in the store room, signaling serious concerns about cleanliness. The raw rajma (90 kg) found at the premises was also unlabelled, raising further food safety issues. The preparation and dining areas were not equipped with insect-proof screens on windows and doors, and the floor in the preparation area was found to be dangerously slippery.Temperature records were not maintained, and raw materials were improperly stored on the floor without pallets. Of particular concern, muskmelon seeds used in gravy curries, weighing 20 kg, were found to be infested with insects and were subsequently discarded. Additionally, a large quantity of whole green gram (30 kg) lacked essential packaging information, including packing date, expiry date, and batch numbers, violating food safety guidelines.
