Key Maoist Leader Chandrahas Killed in Encounter: Police

Hyderabad: Police confirmed that Chandrahas, a key Maoist leader from Telangana, was killed in an encounter at the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border on January 21, Tuesday. The body of Chandrahas, a native of Yapral, Jawaharnagar in Hyderabad, was identified by the police. He served as the East Zonal Bureau Incharge under Odisha state committee and carried a bounty of Rs 20 lakh. He had been on the run since 1985. In the exchange of fire, over 20 Maoists were killed, with 17 bodies already shifted to Raipur for postmortem. A search operation is underway to locate the remaining bodies of the Maoists.
