Director Sukumar who is basking in the massive success of ‘Pushpa The Rule’ shared his thoughts about his beginning days. “I used to write poems and stories with a lot of emotion and depth. I was an introvert and suddenly came into the industry. I used to stand up when people crossed by me and a friend told me that I can’t survive in the film industry like this,” he says at a promotional event of ‘Gandhi Tatha Chettu’. “I went back to my guru and informed him that I may not be able to cope with commercialism in the film industry and everything revolving around money,” he adds. However, his guru explained to him how the cinema industry works. ‘If a person invests Rs 1 crore on a movie, he is bound to look for returns, hence cinema is purely a business proposition. If you are willing to sell your art, go to the film industry, otherwise, keep writing poems. For cinema, the message itself is entertainment,” he informs. He also explained to me that people love to be entertained and love to pay for it. “I resolved to dish out happiness for the audience and my message in movies is to entertain them as much as possible and don’t intend to deliver any social message, although it could creep in my process of making a good entertainer,” he points out.He also praised his daughter, Sukirti Veni Bandreddi, who is making her acting debut with ‘Gandhi Tatha Chettu’ “I was shocked with her realistic performance because I haven’t seen her acting before in my house and she was just a bubbly and energetic girl, and also director Padmavathi Malladi has made a thought-provoking film and bagged international honors too,” he concludes.
