WARANGAL: After a five-day holiday for Sankranti, Enumamula Agriculture Market in Warangal saw a bustling atmosphere on Thursday as farmers brought large quantities of chilli and cotton to sell their crops.The market saw the arrival of around 4,000 chilli bags of various varieties and 600 cotton bags. To handle the surge, authorities made special arrangements to ensure smooth operations.Among the chilli varieties, Teja Chilli fetched a maximum price of ₹14,800 per quintal and a minimum of ₹1,100, while Wonder Hot Chilli sold at a maximum of ₹13,000 and a minimum of ₹10,000. Cotton was sold at a maximum price of ₹7,210 per quintal and a minimum of ₹6,200, slightly below the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹7,521.Meanwhile, the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) announced a further reduction in the MSP for cotton, citing quality considerations. The new MSP, effective from today, stands at ₹7,421 per quintal, down from ₹7,471, marking a ₹50 decrease. Over the past 15 days, the MSP has been reduced by a total of ₹100.In private markets, cotton is currently being sold at ₹7,060 per quintal, further adding to concerns among farmers. The lively trading at the Enumamula Market reflects both the excitement of post-festival sales and the challenges faced by farmers navigating fluctuating market dynamics.
