Supreme Court Dismisses Bail Cancellation Plea Against Chandrababu Naidu

Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu received relief in the Supreme Court as a bench led by Justice Bela Trivedi dismissed a petition filed by the previous government seeking to cancel his bail in the Skill Development case. During the hearing, Mukul Rohatgi, representing the state government, informed the court that a chargesheet had already been filed in the case. Justice Trivedi’s bench stated that there was no need to interfere in the bail cancellation petition, given that the chargesheet was filed, and subsequently dismissed the petition. The court also advised Chandrababu Naidu to cooperate with the investigation if required. Notably, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had granted him bail in November 2023.The Supreme Court also expressed strong disapproval of Swarnandhra Patrika journalist Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who had filed an interlocutory application to cancel Chandrababu Naidu’s bail. The bench questioned the journalist’s standing in the matter, asking, “Who are you? What is your relationship with the case? What is your eligibility to file a PIL?” Justice Trivedi criticized the involvement of an unrelated third party in bail matters and warned of serious consequences for such actions in the future. The interlocutory application was dismissed.
