Delay in Road Repairs at Lal Darwaza Causing Difficulties to Commuters

Hyderabad: In response to a plea by the Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Mahankali temple committee, GHMC started work on reducing the height of the road leading to the temple, ostensibly for vaastu reasons. However, even though works commenced 20 days back, the pace of works has been so slow that the local residents and commuters are facing untold inconvenience.“Repeated road-laying to cover potholes, especially during Bonalu in the monsoon season, have adversely impacted the stretch. Due to Vaastu factors, we requested GHMC to decrease the height of the road,” said the temple chairman Rajendar Yadav.Social activist S.P. Kranthi Kumar, a resident of Chandrayangutta, expressed concerns over the inordinate delay in completing the project. He said that the stretch connects Chandrayangutta, Shahalibanda and Charminar. Commuters are compelled to take the alternate route through Chatrinaka and Gowlipura, which are narrow roads and are leading to traffic congestions.P. Nani, who resides near the temple, said that even local shopkeepers have been hit by the slow-paced work.Meanwhile, the civic body’s executive engineer said “The work involves laying a 200-metre long VDCC (vaccum dewatered cement concrete) road. The delay has been due to repairs of the damaged sewerage pipes being carried out by HMWS&SB.”He said that the entire work is expected to be completed within a week.”Meanwhile, a HMWS&SB official said that sewerage pipelines were damaged during the road repair works. In the meanwhile, they had come across some illegal drinking water connections, which have been duly disconnected, he said.
