Hyderabad: Electric vehicles (EVs) emerged as the fastest-growing segment, with a 26 per cent year-over-year (YoY) increase in platform traffic, driven by new launches and an expanding EV ecosystem. This trend signifies India’s growing adoption of sustainable mobility solutions, according to a report by CarDekho Group’s New Auto segment.The report showcases shifts in consumer preferences regarding fuel types in India’s automotive market. Covering trends from April to October across 2023 and 2024, the report highlights evolving user behavior and platform traffic patterns.The CNG segment recorded a 17 per cent YoY growth, becoming the second-most popular fuel choice after petrol. Key model launches and advancements in CNG technology boosted its retail market share to 21% in October 2024, overtaking diesel.Hybrid vehicles demonstrated an 80 per cent YoY surge in retail figures, contrasting with a 3 per cent decline in petrol vehicle sales, reflecting a preference for cost-efficient, fuel-saving alternatives.Meanwhile, diesel vehicles saw a 14 per cent decline in platform traffic, impacted by stricter emission norms and rising costs.“This shift highlights the industry’s transition to innovative and sustainable solutions,” said Mayank Jain, chief executive officer of New Auto. The report underscores an evolving automotive ecosystem aligned with consumer priorities of affordability and environmental awareness, it said.
