Anantapur: Once a beacon for competitive exam training, the Sri Krishnadevaraya Institute of Academic Development (SKIAD) has been defunct since 2016. Established by Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) in 1995, SKIAD provided coaching for exams like GATE, banking, and state services, including village administrative officer and panchayat secretary posts. The institute played a vital role for rural students struggling to secure placements post-graduation. Its dedicated faculty enhanced students’ competencies, equipping them for various competitive exams and making them job-ready.The institute boasted classrooms, tutorial rooms, a library, and infrastructure conducive to effective learning.Since its closure, SKIAD has fallen into disrepair. Thorny bushes surround the building, while valuable resources like computers and furniture have been stolen.Local youth and students are urging SKU to transfer SKIAD’s management to a capable NGO to revive its operations and benefit the unemployed.Educationists, including Dr M. Suresh Babu of the Save Education Committee, Prof. G.V. Siva Reddy, and Dr H. Ramachandra, have repeatedly petitioned SKU’s leadership. They stress that SKIAD’s absence forces students to travel to Nandyal, Tirupati, and Hyderabad for coaching, heightening the demand for its revival.
