Bhubaneswar: The body of Chitta Ranjan Rout, a former Sarpanch and BJD leader, was discovered on Wednesday morning near a canal in Odisha’s Bhadrak district, with signs indicating he may have been murdered.Rout, who also served as president of the Ambaroli Cooperative Society, had reportedly attended a religious gathering known as the ‘Astama Prahari’ at Bandhagan village on Tuesday evening but did not return home that night. His body, bearing multiple wounds to the head and torso, was found early Wednesday, leading locals to suspect foul play.Bhadrak rural police were promptly notified and arrived at the scene to begin an investigation. Forensic experts are expected to assist in the inquiry, and authorities are actively seeking to determine the identity of the assailant and motive behind Rout’s killing.Locals and family members expressed shock at the incident, describing Rout as a respected figure with no known enemies, which has added an air of mystery to the tragic event.
