WARANGAL: Once the star of Konne village in Bachhannapet mandal, the six-foot statue of Donald Trump has gone from receiving daily pujas and milk baths to being the village’s most neglected celebrity. Despite Trump’s grand re-election as President of the United States for the second time, the statue remains unattended in Konne village of Jangaon district. One Bussa Krishna, a die-hard fan of Donald Trump, built the statue in front of his house in 2018. He regularly conducted pujas, bathed the statue with milk, and kept it neat and clean. During the Covid-19 pandemic, when Trump contracted Corona virus, Krishna offered special prayers by breaking coconuts and even organised an annadana programme in the village for Trump’s speedy recovery.Krishna used to wear T-shirts with Trump’s photos and offered prayers alongside Hindu gods on special occasions and festivals until he died in 2020 from a sudden cardiac arrest. After Krishna’s death, his family members left the village, selling their house and two acres of land he owned. Consequently, no one has taken responsibility for maintaining the Trump statue.Shankar, the tenant residing at Krishna’s house, told Deccan Chronicle that if Krishna had been alive, he would have continued painting the statue, offering special prayers, and celebrating occasions grandly in the village by inviting all the villagers. Though some of Krishna’s friends remember how he treated the statue with great care as a tribute, they celebrated Donald Trump’s victory by garlanding the statue in the evening.caption:Villagers celebrated the re-election of Donald Trump as US president by garlanding his statue here at Konne village in Bachannapet mandal of Jangaon district on Wednesday.
