Vijayawada:The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State Committee has urged the government to take necessary measures to mitigate rising prices and to supply 16 essential goods through the Public Distribution System (PDS) at subsidized rates. The two-day CPI-M State Committee meetings, chaired by Y. Venkateswara Rao, were held in Vijayawada, with the attendance of Politburo Members and state leaders. The committee expressed concern that soaring prices are adversely affecting livelihoods, with purchasing power diminished by unemployment and agricultural crises. CPI-M state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao highlighted that rice prices have risen to ₹80 per kg, marking a 40% increase compared to last year. Additionally, he noted that the price of red gram has surged by 100%, affecting low-income households and potentially impacting education and health sectors.
