Speaking on the occasion, Rajnath Singh lauded BRO’s commitment towards establishing connectivity in far-flung areas by ensuring the timely completion of these roads & bridges. Rajnath mentioned that in the “last five years BRO had completed 450 infrastructure projects with a cost of more than Rs. 16000 crore and this year, in 2024 with these 75 infra projects BRO has dedicated a record 111 infrastructure projects to the Nation. He appreciated the feat of construction of these 75 infrastructure projects at such an expeditious pace during this year.” Talking in particular about Sikkim, Rajnath Singh said that the Government is focused on its development and “in last five years BRO has completed 10 Bridges and six roads in Sikkim. During the devastating cloudburst in October last year, BRO emerged as the first responder, swiftly and effectively restoring connectivity in the region.”Talking about Ladakh Rajnath said that “the work of world’s highest tunnel Shinkula Tunnel has already commenced which will provide a seamless, uninterrupted passage to Leh throughout the year and BRO has made significant progress on Indo-China Border Roads and other critical roads. Work on various strategic roads in Ladakh is in an advanced stage of completion.”There is tension along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. Also, a standoff prevails along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh with heavy troop deployment from both sides.Rajnath lauded BRO’s effort of always being at the forefront in constructing more than 40% of Roads in high-altitude areas with hostile terrain, harsh weather, low oxygen levels and extreme cold. Praising BRO, Rajnath mentioned the successful completion of North-South Road in Andaman & Nicobar Island, providing critical connectivity to Indira Point, the southernmost tip of India.
