E Sreedharan says he's quitting politics-

CHENNAI: ‘Metroman’ E Sreedharan seems to have learned his lesson the hard way. After unsuccessfully contesting the state assembly election as a BJP candidate from Palakkad constituency in April this year, Sreedharan on Thursday called it quits.

In a press conference in Malappuram on Thursday, Sreedharan reportedly said that he would not be involved in active politics anymore. The 89-year-old technocrat said that he has learned a lesson from the assembly election debacle. He said that he will serve the nation anyway but not through politics.

“I don’t need politics to serve my land. I already do that through three trusts,” he was quoted as saying by reports.

In the assembly polls, Sreedharan lost to Congress candidate Shafi Parambil by a margin of 3,859 votes. Sreedharan had joined BJP months before the elections.

Prior to the election, Sreedharan had said he was open to chief ministership if BJP comes to power in the state.
