MUMBAI:  Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray seems to have decided to gradually clip the powers of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari after his refusal to approve the appointment of 12 MLCs despite several reminders from the ruling MVA alliance.

An amendment in the law on appointment of vice-chancellors was approved at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. As per the amendment, vice-chancellors will not be appointed directly by the governor and he can only approve the names recommended by the state government. “The governor works in favour of the BJP and his conduct has been criticised several times,” said a senior minister from the NCP.

A resolution against holding local body elections until the issue of OBC reservations is resolved was also passed by the cabinet. BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis said the Thackeray government failed to give political reservation to OBCs.
