Kadapa: In the wake of the recent electrocution of a Class V student in Kadapa headquarters, authorities have earmarked Rs 110 cr for revamping the distribution lines in Old Town area. An underground cable was planned to get rid of the mess of lines at every LT electric pole.A boy was electrocuted a few days ago when he was going to school on his bicycle while another student suffered serious injuries when their bicycles contacted a live wire that fell on the road. The incident pointed to lapses of electricity department and the civic authorities who allowed cable network companies to use electric poles to fix cables for door to door supply. Kadapa MLA Madhavi Reddy said the cable wire on the pole led to falling of the live wire on the road. She noticed that decades old electric LT lines were in dangerous condition in Old Town area. She stressed the need to revamp the distribution system by laying underground supply lines in Old Town area to avoid mishaps in future.”I have proposed for underground cable system because the existing supply system is unsafe for residents,” she observed and added that a proposal was sent to the department at an estimated cost of Rs 110 cr. She hoped Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will sanction the useful project to avoid untoward mishaps in the area.
