Collectors told to stay overnight in Government hostels

Adilabad: In the wake of reports of unhygienic condition in government residential schools and cases of snakebites and deaths of inmates in hostels, the state government directed collectors to stay overnight at least once a month in these schools to ensure qualitative improvement in their functioning.An order to this effect was issued by chief secretary Santhi Kumari on August 22. The collectors were directed to inspect residential schools and hostels under their jurisdiction and stay overnight in these institutions once a month.Dates of the visits, night halts and actions taken may be mentioned in the monthly tour dairy of collectors, the order stated. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka visited a government residential school in Peddapur in Jagtial on August 13 after the death of a student in snakebite and consoled the family members of the deceased. He had promised to take measures to improve the condition in the hostels. Collectors of Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Komaram Bheem Asifabad, ITDA, Utnoor project officers check on the quality of food being served to inmates, hostel sanitation, electricity, drinking water and the quality of ingredients used in preparation of food. They have lunch with students during their inspections.
