Seven die, 11 injured in explosion at Escientia pharma factory

Seven persons died and 14 others suffered serious injuries after a reactor exploded at Escientia pharma company in Achutapuram SEZ in Rambilli mandal on Wednesday. All the injured were shifted to a private hospital in Anakapalli. Following the explosion of the reactor, flames erupted and spread to nearby areas. According to sources, the explosion occurred in the afternoon when the workers came out for their lunch. The explosion occurred with a huge sound. It is being said that the death toll could have been higher had the workers been still working in the factory.Around 18 of the workers suffered injuries and were shifted to a private hospital where seven of them succumbed to injuries. On information from the factory authorities, firefighting personnel rushed to the place and began dousing the flames. It is learnt that a few workers are still trapped in the factory. Efforts are on to rescue them. Anakapalli MP CM Ramesh spoke to the officials concerned and asked them to provide better medical aid to the injured. He also directed them to begin investigation into the reasons behind the mishap. Following the orders of Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi, collector Vijay Krishnan, SP Deepika rushed to the SEZ and began inquiring into the conditions that led to the explosion. The police were instructed to begin searching for more bodies, if any, on the premises of the factory. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu condoled the bereaved families and directed officials to take up necessary measures for the relief of the affected.
