New Delhi: Union MoS Shobha Karandlaje on Monday wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and urged for a CBI investigation into the death of a police sub-inspector of Yadgiri in Karnataka. The deceased police sub-inspector has been identified as Parashuram, who was serving at Yadgiri Police Station, Karnataka. As per the letter, Parashuram faced undue harassment and he was relentlessly tortured and traumatized by the local Congress MLA, Chenna Reddy Patil Thunnur, and his son, Sunny Gowda alias Pampanagouda, which ultimately led to his unfortunate death. It is also alleged that they demanded a bribe of Rs 30 lakhs to allow him to continue in his current posting. The letter reads, “I am writing to you with deep concern and urgency regarding the tragic death of Shri Parashuram, a dedicated Police Sub Inspector, who was serving at Yadgiri Police Station, Karnataka. His demise has raised serious questions about the prevalent issue of “cash for posting” transfers and the undue harassment he faced, which ultimately led to his unfortunate death.””Parashuram was transferred to Yadgiri Police Station seven months ago and it is reported that he was relentlessly tortured and traumatized by the local Congress MLA, Mr. Chenna Reddy Patil Thunnur, and his son, Sunny Gowda alias Pampanagouda. It is alleged that they demanded a bribe of Rs 30 lakhs to allow him to continue in his current posting. Shri Parashuram, belonging to a socially deprived and downtrodden caste rose through the ranks with great struggle and ambition to serve society, faced immense pressure and harassment due to these unethical demands.”It is also alleged that, despite multiple complaints by the wife of the deceased sub-inspector, the Superintendent of Police delayed in registering the FIR.”Despite Shweta N.V. wife of late Shri Parashuram, filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police on 2nd March 2024, there was a significant delay in registering the FIR. It was only under considerable pressure that the Yadgiri Police Station finally registered FIR 0105/2024 under sections of the SC and ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, U/S 108, 3(5), and 352 of the IPC,” the letter reads.”Given the gravity of the situation and the need for an impartial and thorough investigation, I earnestly request that the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This step is crucial to ensure that justice is served, the culprits are held accountable, and to restore the morale of the police force, particularly officers from marginalized communities who are striving to serve with integrity. The CBI’s involvement will not only bring to light the truth behind Parashuram’s death but will also act as a deterrent against such malpractices in the future. It is imperative to send a strong message that corruption and harassment within the police force will not be tolerated and that those responsible will face the full extent of the law,” added that letter.
