Adele has been one of the most defining voices of the 21st century, making a huge impact with tons of classic songs, like “Easy on Me”, “Someone Like You”, and many more. As no stranger to a breakup anthem herself, Adele had her own public split from her husband Simon Konecki in 2019. The pair had been together for eight years and married for one when they broke up. They also shared a son, Angelo, in 2012. Now that the divorce is finalized, the two of them seem like they’re on good terms. Find out more about Adele’s breakup from Simon here.
Adele and Simon Split
Adele and Simon married in secret in 2018, but they split up in April 2019. Months after their separation, the “Hello” singer filed for divorce in September. Their divorce was finalized in 2021. Adele admitted that they were “overdue” to split in a 2021 interview with Heart Radio. “The more and more you put it off, the worse and worse it gets and I had been putting it off anyway for years before, and so now I am chilled as anything,” she said.

What Has Adele Said About The Split?
After the divorce, Adele has spoken about their breakup a few times. She admitted to feeling a bit lost in a Rolling Stone profile in November 2021. “I didn’t really know myself,” she told the outlet. “I thought I did. I don’t know if it was because of my Saturn return or if it was because I was well and truly sort of heading into my thirties, but I just didn’t like who I was.”
Adele also mentioned the “Saturn return” and spoke about the reason why they split in a November 2021 Vogue cover story. “Neither of us did anything wrong. Neither of us hurt each other or anything like that. It was just: I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It’s really important to me,” she said.
In the Rolling Stone interview, she opened up about how hard it was to go through a public split. “It made me really sad,” she said. “Then having so many people that I don’t know know that I didn’t make that work … it f**king devastated me. I was embarrassed. No one made me feel embarrassed, but you feel like you didn’t do a good job.”

Despite the breakup, Adele and Simon seem like they’re still on good terms. They co-parent Angelo together, and the singer opened up about some of the difficulties of co-parenting in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. “It was just exhausting trying to keep going with it. It’s a process. The process of divorce, the process of begin a single parent, the process of not seeing your child every single day wasn’t really a plan I had when I became a mum,” she said.
At the time, Adele explained that she still made sure to show her son that she still loved his dad, even if she wasn’t “in love” with him anymore. She also said that they lived across the street from one another, and she still had many kind words to say about him. “Even now, I trust him with my life… Him and Angelo, they were angels sent to me. That’s how I feel,” she said.
Shortly after the divorce was finalized, the singer began dating sports agent Rich Paul, and the pair even cutely refer to each other as “husband” and “wife.” It seems like Simon and his ex’s new boyfriend get along well, as they were spotted together at Adele’s London concert in July 2022.
