The ‘Naatu Naatu’ song from S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ won the prestigious Oscars award. The song that rocked the world, composed by M.M. Keeravani and performed by Ram Charan and Jr. NTR on screen, won the award  for best original song at the 95th Academy Awards.

The award is historic because it is the first Indian song to bag an Oscar. The Keeravani track won the Golden Globe for best song on January 10, which was a resounding achievement for Telugu cinema’s homegrown marvel.

The Indian documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ has won the Oscars for best short documentary. The documentary by Kartiki Gonsalves streaming on Netflix tells the story of strong bond between an abandoned elephant and its two caretakers.

“RRR”, a lavishly mounted period epic, was the first Indian film in over two decades to be nominated for the Golden Globes 2023 awards.

Directed by Rajamouli, “RRR” emerged on the global scene after its March 2022 release and received praise for the filmmaker’s vision, high-octane fight sequences and Keeravaani’s rousing musical soundtrack.

The film — which was released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi — received rave reviews from Hollywood biggies. Some of its endorsers included filmmakers Russo Brothers (“The Gray Man”), Edgar Wright (“Baby Driver”), Scott Derrickson (“Doctor Strange”), “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise director James Gunn and Oscar winner Jessica Chastain.
