Hyderabad: Khairatabad DCC president C. Rohin Reddy along with other Congress leaders took part in a demonstration held by police job aspirants at Gandhi Bhavan.

The protest programme organised by NSUI was led by state president Balmoor Venkat. Earlier Congress had announced solidarity with the SI, Constable Abhyarthula Samasyala Parishkara Porata Samithi, the umbrella organisations of aspirants who were disqualified in physical tests following state government’s altered standards.

“Rather than conducting physical fitness in the old fashion, the government has changed the standards. The long jump was increased from 3.8 to 4 metres, and this was held immediately after the 1,600-metre run. Even standards of other events were altered. I demand that those who qualified in the running event be declared qualified for the mains,” Rohin Reddy said.

Later in the evening, as the number of protestors swelled, the number of policemen deployed at the Gandhi Bhavan were increased. In a novel protest, the aspirants and party leaders including AICC secretary Nadeem Javed submitted a memorandum to the effigy of Chief Minister K/ Chandrasekhar Rao.
