Leo’s Golden Globe Wins
2005 Best Actor Drama – Aviator
Leonardo took home his first Golden Globe way back in 2005, for his stellar work on Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator. The leading man played real-life director, aviation enthusiast and, later in life, shut-in, Howard Hughes. The biopic and homage to Old Hollywood had an incredible cast, including Cate Blanchett, John C. Reilly, Alec Baldwin, Alan Alda, Danny Huston, and Jude Law, among others. Leo was up against some tough competition, including Javier Bardem, Johnny Depp and Liam Neeson. Notably, Cate was nominated as well, for Best Supporting Actress, in her role as screen icon Katharine Hepburn.

In a jaw-dropping performance as real-life investor Jordan Belfort, Leo was the perfect actor to capture the story of a Wall Street god’s meteoric rise in the financial district and his shocking downfall. Leading a cast that included Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo was a powerhouse and proved his chops by beating out Christian Bale, Joaquin Phoenix and Oscar Isaac.
2016 Best Actor Drama – The Revenant
With nothing but the highest critical praise for Leonardo in The Revenant, the actor easily took home the big prize at the 2016 Golden Globes. Playing a frontiersman in 1820s America left for dead by his team of hunters, and an arch nemesis in Tom Hardy’s role, Leo’s character battles the elements and a bear in his fight for revenge. Leo’s main competition that year came from Will Smith and Michael Fassbender. The role also brought home Leo’s first Oscar!
