GUWAHATI: Nearly 89,000 people in Assam are still affected by the floods. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), rivers including, Brahmaputra, Disang, Dikhou and Burhidihing, are in a spate, flowing above danger level in some places.
The affected districts and subdivisions are Barpeta, Biswanath, Charaideo, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari and Sivasagar.
The ASDMA said the floods affected cropland in 2,922 hectares of land and damaged embankments, roads and bridges in some districts. Over 1.24 lakh animals were also affected.
Sixty-one relief camps are operational where 2,333 of the marooned are taking shelter. The floods inundated nearly 40% of the Kaziranga National Park but the authorities said the situation was still not threatening. Some animals moved to higher grounds within the park.
