At least 11 suspected Kuki militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Manipur’s Jiribam district today, according to an NDTV report. The situation remains fluid, with more details awaited. Sources also indicated that some Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers were injured in the attack by suspected Kuki militants in the district, which borders Assam.The clash began when the insurgents launched a coordinated assault from two directions on a police station in Jiribam. According to the NDTV report, there is a relief camp for internally displaced people located next to the police station, and the attackers may have intended to target the camp as well.The police station in Jiribam’s Borobekra area has been targeted multiple times in recent months. Following the attack on the station, the suspected Kuki insurgents spread out towards a nearby settlement in Jakurador Karong, about 1 km away, where they began setting houses on fire. At the same time, they engaged in a gunfight with the security forces.Tension has been escalating in Jiribam since last week when fresh rounds of violence erupted in the area.
